Fire guts eight houses at Kokila
ITANAGAR, Apr 24: A massive fire broke out at Kokila Market line under Balijan circle yesterday gutting down at least eight shops cum residence and the Monday market shed.
The fire broke out at 3pm and turned to ashes huge property within half hour due to heavy wind.
The administration had a tough time dealing with it due to non availability of fire service at Balijan PS as well as Holongi and the fire service at Gohpur, Assam extended help by sending a fire tender.
The cause of fire is under investigation.

AALO, Apr 24: Er. Talem Taboh, INC contesting candidate from 32 Rumgong accompanied by ZPM Payum and Anchal Samity Members of Rumgong, Jomlo Mobuk and Payum visited the fire accident site at PI Colony and interacted with the fire victims yesterday.
Essential utensils and relief materials were also distributed to the victims. Taboh opined that the fire accident is the major disaster we all are facing today. Fire tenders need to be kept in readiness all the time and prompt action is essential in the event of fire accident, he said. Relief materials are also pouring in from various corners and well wishers.

ITANAGAR, Apr 24: Expressing concern over technical glitches of checking inner line permit in the railway station in the state, Capital Youth Organization (CYO) today called on Railway Station Manager H K Kardong at Naharlagun. CYO members also raised security concern while checking ILP against migrants. It further appealed to the railway authority to construct security wall in order to stop unwanted entry of illegal migrants. The organization further emphasized on installation of CCTV cameras in every entry and exit point. It said that construction of railway station is still on and yet to officially hand over to the station manager.

Defence personnel under scanner for dubious voting
ITANAGAR, Apr 24: The 37th Pasighat West Congress Committee and INC election agent has written to the DEO, East Siang objecting the ‘dubious’ voting by the defence personnel. They appealed to the DEO to annul the voting rights of all the 75 personnel as the processes of issuing postal ballot have not been transparent.
Submitting details about 39 such cases involving, they called for strict action in this regard. They alleged that 39 such cases have been registered in one constituency alone which includes issuance of postal ballot to dead and retired personnel. In some case postal ballot has been issued to those personnel who have already voted on April 9 and those whose name does not find mentioned in the electoral roll, further they claimed.
They further alleged that many of them voted twice. Alleging gross negligence, the BCCI, 37th Pasighat West Congress Committee, urged DEO to take adequate action to avoid legal consequences.
UPSC chairman calls on governor
ITANAGAR, Apr 24: Chairman of Union Public Service Commission Prof. D P Agarwal called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma at Raj Bhawan today. They discussed on various issues including strengthening the State Public Service Commission, intellectual connectivity to the North East region and the State, enhancement of intellectual capacity through regular interactions and seminars in the state etc.
The Governor requested the UPSC chairman to aid and advice the State Commission and also facilitate in streamlining it in the line of Union Public Service Commission.
The Governor, who is a former member of the UPSC, also urged Prof Agarwal to initiate steps to encourage more and more candidates from North East region especially Arunachal Pradesh to go for premier Public Service examinations.

Forest fire threatening existence of Poma village
ITANAGAR, Apr 24: The Poma Rillo Youth Welfare Society (PRYWS) in a release informed that forest fire which started from nearby jungle is now threatening to engulf the entire Poma village. PRYWS claimed that if urgent action is not taken at the earliest, it may lead to colossal loss of properties and whole Poma village may be burnt to ashes.
They further alleged that despite several complaints, the environment and forest department has not taken any step to control the wild fire. “If forest fire cause damage to any properties within Poma village we will hold environment and forest department responsible for it. If within next 4 days department don’t take any step to control forest fire, we will be compelled to take law into our hand. It is matter of existence for us,” said PRYWS president Techi Rajen. It is being reported that forest fire have already started damaging agriculture field located nearby village and if not control immediately, it will pose serious threat to safety and security of Poma area.

Official report says 34 houses gutted in Wakka fire
ITANAGAR, Apr 24: The devastating fire that broke out at Wakka Monday last devoured a total of 34 houses, 11 granaries, an Anganwadi center and two churches. Moreover, 23 houses were partially damaged, Longding Deputy Commissioner informed in an official release. Fortunately, there was no loss of human life, added the DC, who along with Longding CO, Deputy Superintendent of Police and OC visited the fire ravaged village to take stock of the situation.
In earlier news item published in this daily, the number of house gutted in the fire was mentioned as 32 based on a report by the Wakka ZPM.
Meanwhile, teams from Wancho Students' Union (WSU) and Longding District Students Union (LDSU), who visited the fire ravaged village, urged the state government and the authority concerned for providing immediate relief to the affected people.
Water crisis cripples Debing village

RUKSIN, Apr 24: Debing villagers under Ruksin circle of East Siang district have been suffering from a severe drinking water crisis for the last couple of months due to sharp drop in groundwater level.
The situation has been further aggravated by authorities not repairing the damaged water pipelines, which were washed away by flood water last year.
The villagers, including children are facing hardship in fetching water as they have to go to either the nearby irrigation channel or Debing River to fetch water.
According to them all the eight ring wells installed by the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply division (PHED), Pasighat in 2010 have dried up due to sharp drop in ground water level.
The villagers rued that in spite of repeated pleas, the authority did not pay any heed to solve the water problem.
“Our villagers have been suffering a lot due to water scarcity, but the authority is not taking any step to mitigate the problem”, the sufferers rued.
According to them only pump is functioning at present in the village which cannot meet the water demand of more than 150 families, they said.
Some villagers are making alternative arrangements like engagement of ‘thelawala’ to collect water from Debing River by incurring additional expenditure.
It is pertaining to mention here that the Ledum Water Supply Mega Project covers
as many as 21 villages falling under Ruksin, Bilat and Sille-
The PHE department has proposed a natural water supply scheme for Debing village but it is yet to be sanctioned.
The villagers accused their former MLA for the sufferings, now they have been facing as he allegedly did not pay any attention to mitigate the burning problem during his tenure.

To maintain physical comfort of the Community and Society and considering the resentments/ public nuisance, the order also removes trades of/on opium or occupation or keeping any such goods or merchandise with immediate effect.

Never ending woes of Pasighat
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to highlight some of the growing problems of Pasighat town. 'Pasighat' the oldest town of Arunachal Pradesh, celebrated its centenary (100 years) just few years ago but still as always the 'Electricity Problem' is yet to be solved. Even if power comes for few hours voltage is very low in some parts of town like PI colony and other. The same is with the case of 'Water Supply'. There is uneven distribution of water supply in different parts of town. Some parts get sufficient water supply while other colonies are facing scarcity. The prices of essential items are soaring. It seems like shopkeepers fix their own rate while selling unprinted commodities. The rate of printing for single colour page ranges from Rs.40 to 50 which are really very high even if the country may have inflation problem. Also there is problem of growing number of illegal immigrants. With the coming of railway in the town all the above problems will increase if not checked properly. Pasighat is one of the most beautiful towns of the state with very high potential to go forward in every positive direction.
So, we being the citizens of this beautiful town would like to request all the concerned departments, officials, local bodies, various organisations like Adisu, ABK etc to look into the matter and take necessary measures.

Turn promises into reality
Dear Editor,
Everybody is aware that AAPSU Marg situated near state General Hospital, Naharlagun is cleaned by organizing social service every year by AAPSU members. However it seems these days AAPSU executive members have forgotten the said Marg as it is lying with dust and garbage around. In recent past, while passing through that road seeing the condition of AAPSU Marg I felt there is urgent need for conducting social service to keep it clean.
During student election all the candidates prepare manifesto for the welfare of student community as well as state. But after the completion of election, the manifesto prepared by candidates goes missing and remains only in pamphlet forever. So, it is my earnest request to all the student leaders to convert promise into reality.

Voters are responsible for underdevelopment of state
Dear Editor,
After actively participating in 2009 and 2014 assembly & parliamentary election, I have come to conclusion that in our state quality and good leaders has no place due to greedy and materialistic voters. Persons who want to contest in election first he/she should have minimum bank balance of Rs.100.00 cores and own showroom/dealers of Cars, Bike and CGI sheet. They even should posses enough arms which are needed for distribution during election and which is one of the important factors deciding the wining scope. All the above mentioned things are needed to win election in Arunachal because majority of the voters do not extend support to candidates on development and social issues. It is painful experience for those leaders who really wish to develop their constituency in true sense after getting elected. Voters never try to understand their vision and target.
Today we blame leaders for not taking up developmental activities in their constituency
but sometime I feel that we voter should first develop our self and support leaders
on developmental agenda. If we support the leader freely without taking anything
against a single vote and by demanding that after being elected MLA of areas should
concentrate in development of roads, schools, hospitals, agri., horti etc for sure
we will witness development. If sources are available, factories and industries should
be established for absorption of unemployed youth of areas as well as state. I think
MLA will surely work for development if he/she gets elected without spending huge
money during election. However in our state candidates incur heavy expenditure during
election time with some of the contenders taking loan from others to spend. Due to
such heavy spending the leaders get busy in recovery of money to repay loan and also
in preparation of next election which is the main cause of under-
